Guided
Mule Deer, Elk and Mountain Lion Hunts
To
insure a successful hunt, please read our "Hunting
Tips"!
We
hunt mornings and afternoons, with all three meals served family
style in the ranch house. We provide all of the transportation needed
while hunting, most of which is done by 4x4, ATV, or on foot. The
weather can be changeable in Colorado; so layering is a good idea,
while some really warm clothes need to be available in case of a
sudden squall. Our goal is to provide excellent service to our hunters,
as well as an exclusive hunting opportunity, so we limit our bookings
to no more than four hunters per season. We have a new, heated cabin
available for their use, with shower and toilet facilities.
Things
to Remember:
ALL deer
licenses are obtained by application
First and fourth season Elk licenses are obtained by application
Bull Elk licenses for second and third seasons are available over
the counter.
Application deadline is the first Tuesday in April.
Muzzleloader
and Archery Hunts
There has always
been a good-sized herd of resident animals in the area. The hayfields
and meadows provide forage for them and we see them, (especially
deer) grazing throughout the day. Does and fawns are most frequently
seen, with the more wary and wiser bucks waiting until later in
the afternoon to show up.
In past years,
muzzleloaders have been very successful on the ranch. Since September
of 2004, we also found that to be true of archery hunters. We take
a limited number of archery and muzzleloader hunters, and are pleased
with the success of these hunters and are looking forward to future
hunts.
Muzzleloader
licenses are obtained by application only.
Archery elk licenses can be obtained over the counter.
Archery deer are obtained by application only.
Application deadline is the first Tuesday in April.
Lion Hunts
Lion Hunting
Season runs from November 17th through March 31st.
We are fortunate
to be able to hunt thousands of acres in an area that is a comfortable
driving distance from our home ranch. The terrain there is very
rugged, with elevations ranging from 6400 to 7500 feet. Bare rocks
and ledges warm during the day, causing scents to quickly dissipate,
so we try to time our hunts to take place late enough into the winter
to have a good snow base. Snow holds the scent and makes tracking
easier.
Our lion hunts
are one on one, one guide to one hunter. We use snowmobiles, ATV's
and 4x4's as much as possible, but due to the nature of the terrain,
there is a great degree of hiking involved. A lion hunt can be very
strenuous, so a hunter needs to be in good physical condition. We
use Treeing Walker hounds and they are dependable and experienced.
We can accommodate archery hunters as well as pistol or rifle hunters.
Lion hunters are welcome to stay at the cabin on the ranch, which
is heated and has shower and toilet facilities. Breakfast and supper
are served in the ranch house, with noon meals generally packed
in coolers and thermos' to take along on the hunt.
We have had
many successful lion hunts - some have been truly memorable. A lion
hunt can be very exciting, and unlike anything you have every experienced.
Lion licenses
may be purchased over the counter.
Cow Hunts
There are two
late season cow hunts that take place in our area. The first is
an October/November hunt, which we hunt only after 4th season in
November. It is by drawing only. We also take hunters during the
second late cow season which takes place December 1st to December
31st and is also a drawing hunt. Application deadline for both hunts
is the first Tuesday in April. Leftover licenses for both hunts
can be purchased on a first come first serve basis after August
12th through the Division of Wildlife.
